Software Engineers & Web Developers

The Mechanical Zoo engineers are careful implementors who are curious about how things work. They lean on large levers to get more done, faster, and enjoy applying new tools to the new opportunities afforded by today's web. They endeavor to solve real-world problems for real people (including the rest of the company), and aren't afraid to think big.

General requirements:

User Experience Designers

The user is always the focus of our work at The Mechanical Zoo. We're looking for a UX designer who uses quantitative methods to assist the product design and evolution process, and is able to quickly generate interaction mockups or prototypes -- someone who thinks about user experience within the broad context of psychology, not just technology. The unique nature of our core service poses an exciting opportunity for a UX designer to shape the fundamental offering.

Requirements:

Quantitative Engineers

We're looking for quants who extract the collective intelligence of large groups of people by analyzing weblogs, query streams, and transcripts of user interaction. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the development of automation tools that provide continuous analysis along the lines and scale of Netflix's recommendation system or Alexa's traffic aggregator.

Requirements:

Social Technologies Expert

We're looking for a social technologist with a deep understanding of the way people use the internet in individual and group contexts. The person should be able to design and manage a product that has viral appeal both for technorati and for ordinary people who have little knowledge of other social applications. As with the rest of our team, this person should use both quantitative and qualitative methods to learn from our users, and be able to rapidly iterate on solutions. Depending on the person we find, title and precise responsibilities TBD.

Requirements:

Community Builders

The Mechanical Zoo community builders are responsible for engaging and growing our user base. We're looking for extroverts who can start up conversations with people across cultures and demographics, and think strategically about user adoption and new ways to build community.
